The Royal Court Dance (佳人剪牧丹)
The royal court dance is a creative court dance created by Crown Prince Hyomyeong during the reign of Sunjo of the Joseon dynasty!
The name of the dance translates to ‘beautiful people plucking peonies’ and during the dance, vases filled with bloomed peonies are placed at the center of the stage.
Placing the focus on the vases, this is a spectacular and lovely dance.
During the performance, the dignity of King Yeonsan and the magnificence of the king’s quarters are emphasised through the scene of the royal court dance!
This is a royal dance which you can literally feel the grandeur of the royal dance of Joseon and the elegance of the beautiful peonies 🙂
The royal court dance was made by Crown Prince Hyomyeong for the enjoyment of his father during the late Joseon period.
The court dance that fell into the danger of extinction after the Japanese colonial rule can be seen again through <The Palace: Tale of Jang Noksu>!
The dance that was reenacted during March of 1923 for the celebration of the 50th birthday of King Sunjong and during July of 1930 for the celebration of the return of Crown Prince Euimin to Korea.
This unique royal court dance can be seen at 2018 Jeongdong Theater Tradition Series Performance <The Palace: Tale of Jang Noksu>!
